I suppose it would be good to dedicate this first post as an introduction to my blog. What’s the point? Another day another blog. First, let me preface this by saying that I am not writing this for you. You, as in the you who stumbled upon this blog from a totally unrelated Google search that was matched to some random word here. That’s cool, because I’m not writing this for you; I’m writing this for me: “Me,” the arrogant SOB who decided it would be great to dedicate a blog to record my hypocrisy.
So here it goes. What’s the point of this blog? The inspiration comes from the many “inner monologues” I routinely have with myself. These monologues are so passionate, insightful, and full of hypocritical crap, it sometimes seems like I ought to write them down so I won’t forget the wonderful moral lessons reaped from such a plentiful harvest of criticism.
Many of the things I obsess on are the flaws, sins, and imperfections of my own family, work associates (to keep terms abstract), and acquaintances. I see how some people have made bad decisions, and I seem to be particularly skilled in dissecting their life choices and where they went “off the road.”
So at the end of the day, instead of being a totally judgmental asshole, I really do hope that I can turn these hypocritical criticisms into something truly constructive. I want to test whether I can accurately record these “inner monologues” and use them to shed light upon the nature of my own imperfections and sins.
Perhaps occasionally I will even explicitly admit where I have the same problems I highlight in those around me, but don’t get your hopes up. I’m better at spotting the splinter in my brother’s eye.
“How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ when you have the log in your own eye? You hypocrite! First, take the log out of your own eye; then you will see clearly, so that you can remove the splinter from your brother’s eye!” (Matthew 7:4-5)
